If you do any form of digital marketing there is a tendency to look at the data and think that you are dealing with thousands of people. If you look at YouTube channels you might see an extremely large number of views for a particular video.

But, any form of marketing is a communication from one person to another, so it should be created with that in mind. People don’t like being spoken to as if they are part of a crowd, they like being spoken to as if they are an individual.

A really good example of this is the next time you look at your emails have a look at the difference between some of your personal emails, how they look and what sort of communication you have with the other person. Then look at business emails and what they look like and see if they address you personally.

People will delete business emails without even looking at them because it’s not really a communication from one person to another, but would you delete your personal email without even looking at it when it’s written for you you will read and respond to it.

As a principle to apply to not just email marketing but your marketing communication in general. Make it personal to the person who is watching reading or listening to your message.
