A Marketing During COVID-19 Example

A Marketing During COVID-19 Example Video Transcription:

Thomas Green here with Ethical Marketing Service. Today I wanted to share with you an interesting marketing story which you may be able to apply to your business during COVID-19.

Due to the lockdown I have been ordering many more take aways than I should. I am not sure why, but I have been using just-eat and deliveroo far too much.

There was one take away which I haven’t used recently. The reason is because they were shut for a little bit presumably a deep clean of some sort.

Then a couple of days ago I receive a text message saying and I quote:

“We haven’t heard from you in a while? Did you know we are back open for collections & deliveries? Give us a call and stay safe with the number underneath and the restaurant name.”

I wouldn’t have thought anything more about this because when I saw the message I thought:

No offer made, no reason to respond, it’s not personalised to me, so it’s obviously just been sent out to everyone on their customer list, basically all they are saying is we’re here and come in, which is the most basic marketing you can do.

But yesterday we tried to order from said restaurant and they said delivery would be an hour and a half due to demand, so a family member said she would go and collect it instead of waiting and when she got there, they were completely overrun with people and orders and they had stopped answering the phone because they had too many customers.

If you are watching this and you have a business, this should be giving you some ideas, in this instance, all that was required was a bulk blast text message to their customers to remind them and they had too many orders to handle.

Now I do understand that restaurants have their peak times. But I am presuming the text went out because they had a bit of a dry spell. And needed to drum up some business.

And that was all it took. So the question becomes, have you got a list of your clients? Broken down by the last time they did business with you? Are you doing SMS marketing (which is text messages)?

If not, the difference could be something like this example. Personally I would have done the things I mentioned previously. Maybe put a deadline on it “if you order by this date with this code. You get a free X” and then it’s easier to measure. But even so, if you are not doing SMS marketing. You should definitely test it to see if it can work for you.
