Testing Social Media Preconceptions

Each social media platform has its own popular way of being used. But there is no authority to say you must use it in a particular way.

A social strategy is important for businesses. But typically most will choose some platforms and not others based on preconceptions of what each media is supposed to be for.

But do your clients share those same views. Is it really the case that these different media’s have to be used in the way most others are using them?

Here is a list of ways for you to use social platforms in a non typical way:

A Youtube channel for video testimonials

A Twitter profile for customer service updates

A TikTok profile for product demonstrations

An instagram profile to show the members of your team like some do on their website

A Pinterest account for infographics educating your customers about your business

A Facebook profile to host online reviews

If you have your own social strategy. And don’t need any prompt from me to get on different medias, no problem. But if you have reservations about certain platforms because of what they are typically used for. There is no reason why you can’t use it for whatever reason you want within their guidelines.

Clients will also choose the platform they prefer to follow you on. So just because you have a preference for one or the other. Doesn’t mean there isn’t value in being present in a way that is preferable for your clients. 

It is also an unknown about which platform might do very well for you and which you will be posting on where no one will end up seeing it. If you diversify between the medias, you will have a higher probability of being on one where you build an audience which actually makes a difference to your business.

The more exposure you get to these different platforms, the more likely you are to use new features which your competition isn’t. It is also worth remembering what these profiles are, lists of people who have shown an interest in your business and anytime you want to communicate with them, there they are. The more lists you have that have actual prospects, the more you can communicate your message and perhaps make more sales.
